The slice and insert technique is easy to learn and creates unlimited design possibilities. By starting with pieces of fabric and slicing and inserting strips, a design begins to appear. Altering the width and angle of the strips and wedges creates even more intricate possibilities, as does varying the degree of contrast between the fabrics. Through the creation of three different pillow tops, I will be teaching techniques for slicing and inserting strips and matching seams. You’ll also experiment with partial inserts, floating inserts, pointed inserts with diagonal joins and wedge shaped inserts. They are all fun to play with and you’ll start to see more and more possibilities as you learn each method. Mastering these techniques will allow you to create your own blocks and designs, as well as to create your own “fabric.”This class is a great foundational class and is recommended if you are interested in attending the Shattered Quilt class being offered this summer.
