Supply list:
Sample block is 10 ½” x 10 ½” square unfinished
Basic Supply List:
§ Scissors § Thread clippers § Seam ripper § Small quilting ruler for measuring (I like my 10” by 2 ½” for this project).
§ Pins § Hand sewing needles of your preference. (I like embroidery needles or sharps (size 9-10 for hand sewing. They have a bigger eye – easier to thread!)
§ Needle threader tool – your preference (if you need one, like me!)
§ Thread – neutral or to match fabric (50 wt. quilting cotton or 40 wt. cotton thread which is slightly heavier).
§ Thimble, if you use one for hand sewing.
§ Thread lubricant, if you use it when hand sewing. (There are various kinds – wax, Thread Heaven, Sewer’s Aid).
§ Fabric marker or pencil (bring your preferred marker, chalk, pencil, Frixion pen, etc. - it doesn’t have to be removable).
§ Pressing tool, like Clover Press and Roll – I find this tool to be really useful for pressing seems without going to the ironing board! Bring it if you have one
Pattern required: “Pleated Log Cabin” pattern by Lynne Wilson Designs Please note, this pattern includes instructions for making the pleated log cabin or ”Manx” squares. Our fabric supplies will be different than those listed on the pattern. Please follow the list below:
Requirements: Fabric Yardage: Use 45”, 100% cotton fabric, remove selvage edges. We’ll be making a sample block, feel free to raid your stash for fabrics! For one traditional “log cabin” style quilt block which is half light fabrics and half dark fabrics to form the overall pattern (see below), you’ll need the following: • Foundation square: (1) 10 ½” x 10 ½” square of fabric. This square will be the back of your square and not visible on the front side. Hint: your stitches will be less obvious if you use a print fabric. • Center square: (1) 3” x 3” square of fabric. Back this square with (1) 3” x 3” square of woven fusible interfacing. • Log strips: (4) 2 ½” x WOF strips of “light” fabrics (can be one or varied prints, tones). • (4) 2 ½” x WOF strips of “dark/medium” fabrics (varied prints in medium and dark work well)
