Grammy’s Treasures
This class will focus on the renewal and reuse of all those vintage embroidered linens we have collected or saved for years to honor the handiwork of loved ones and strangers – just because as quilters, we appreciate the time and effort women before us have spent “making” things beautiful.
The linens we will work with can be antique dresser scarves, table cloths, hankies, orphan quilt squares, cross stitch, even something printed on fabric if it appeals to you. You choose the items that work for you.
Basic rules of design apply. Choose items that are small, medium, and large. Pick a colorway if you choose, or mix it up. If you decide to use many colors, think about the color value. Pastels may be over shadowed by brighter colors.
Supplies:
20 – 25 vintage pieces (vary size) washed and pressed. Please cut to quilt square size before class leaving a 1’ to 2” margin around embroidery
Complementary colored quilt cottons for sashing between blocks.
Sewing machine, pins, ruler and rotary cutter. Lightweight interfacing if embroidery backing is thin.
Class one will focus on creating the blocks for the quilt.
Class two will be layout and connecting blocks with sashing and fill in squares.
