Super Bowl Charity Sew Out Event



                           Bing Videos will take you to a tutorial for the receiving blankets.  We have kits made up by Linda from donated fabrics that will be available for pick up on Sunday, February 7 between 1 and 4pm.

Pocket Pillow Instructions

Supplies: ½ yard for the front (A) and back (B) of the pillow. Feel free to use scraps and make all pieces from different fabrics… FUN!

Cut as follows;
(2) pieces of fabric 16" x 16" for pillow front (A) and back (B) pieces.
(1) piece of fabric 16" x 16" for front pocket (C).
(1) 16” square of lightweight fusible interfacing for pocket.
(1) piece of fabric 4” wide x 8” long for handle (D).
(1) piece of interfacing 4” wide x 8” long for handle.

Directions: Use ½” seams throughout. ¼” seam for topstitching on edges.

Strap: Iron fusible interfacing to wrong side of handle piece (D).
Fold the handle piece lengthwise with WRONG sides together and press. Unfold and bring raw edges to the center fold line and press. Fold on center fold line and press. The handle piece will measure approx. 1” x 8” . Topstitch ¼” from edges along both sides.

Attach Strap: Mark the center at the TOP of the front piece (A). Make marks at 1 1/2” from the center mark on both sides. Place the inner sides of the straps on these marks. Raw edges of handle and pillow top edge should be together. Sew strap ends to top edge. Reinforce sewing of straps to prevent tearing with use.

Attach Pocket: Iron fusible interfacing to wrong side of pocket.
Fold the pocket (C) in half with WRONG sides together so it measures 16” x 8”. Topstitch ¼” from top folded edge. You may also use a decorative stitch or piece of trim to embellish.
Lay the pocket piece right side up, along the BOTTOM of the RIGHT side of the front body piece (A) with raw edges together.
Baste sides and bottom of the front pillow piece to attach pocket. Reinforce seams at the top edge of pocket on each side, as this can prevent tearing with use.

Assemble Pillow Body: Lay the back body piece (B), on top of the front piece (A) with right sides together. Stitch around with ½” seam allowance, leaving a 5” opening at bottom edge for stuffing. backstitch at both ends of stitching.
Turn the pillow inside out, making sure the pocket is on the front side of the pillow. Use fiberfill or a 15" square pillow form to stuff the pillow. Stitch up the opening by hand or machine.
