Book: Long Time Gone by Jen Kingwell
Long Time Gone is a non-traditional sampler quilt. It includes a variety of traditional quilt blocks. Some non-traditional techniques will be demonstrated in class to make the blocks. There will be time to view demos and get information with time to sew in class and at home. This class will last for eleven months. We will move through the book’s sections, starting with the first 3 blocks, “Bow Tie Block (p.3 & 4), Square in a Square Block (p. 5 & 6) and Crosses of the U.K. Block (p. 7). Please bring scrap fabrics to begin working on these blocks. You may use the instructions for pre-cutting pieces given on the book’s pages listed for each block above. I will also routinely provide alternate and non-traditional techniques for cutting and piecing, beyond those listed in the book. You may consider bringing your supplies and assorted fabrics uncut, so that we can explore new ways of making our blocks as we move along!

Yardage needed: Quilt top Approximately 7 yards of fabric. This may include scraps from your stash, along with larger pieces like precuts and “fat eighths”, “fat quarters” or larger. As we are working on this over the period of 11 months, I suggest that you start with a smaller amount of fabric and add to your supply as you go along throughout the year. We may also find that we may trade/share fabric pieces within our group as we move along through this process.
Sample Square Backings If you wish to use a consistent neutral backing fabric instead of scraps within your pieced blocks throughout your quilt, you may consider purchasing approximately 4 ½” yards for this purpose.
Border The border on this quilt is pieced from scrappy fabrics. You might want to consider how you want your border to look as you progress along in construction of your blocks.
Sashing/Binding Approximately 1 ½ yard Quilt Back Approximately 4 ½” yards Please call me at 315 793 8834 with any concerns prior to class.
Thanks, Linda
